It’s understandably tough to approach this release with 100% confidence, given the multitude of hurdles it has had to clear en route to fruition. The launch of System Shock will finally put the long development cycle to rest, and will hopefully result in a faithful recreation of one of the genuine classics of the sci-fi/horror genre. A few short in-game clips are featured, but unfortunately, there is no full trailer, which will hopefully be incoming soon. The original voice actor of Shodan, one of gaming’s most iconic villains, will also feature.In addition to the release window, developer Prime Matter has released several new images, showcasing the locations, enemies, and weapons that will be encountered by the player as they pick their way through Citadel Station en route to a fateful encounter with the terrifying rogue A.I.: SHODAN. According to Steam's official description, System Shock will combine cult gameplay with all-new HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface and all-new sounds and music. Nightdive Studios, who accquired the rights to the series in 2012, then went on to announce they would be developing a reimagining of the series as opposed to another sequel. A third title was in development by OtherSide Entertainment, with multiple trailers having been released for the title, but was cancelled in 2020 after various developers departed the studio. A sequel, System Shock 2, was then released five years later in 1999. The original System Shock was launched back in 1994 for PC, and was developed by LookingGlass Technologies. RELATED: Valve Confirms Steam Deck No Longer Requires Reservation Now, with the recently updated Steam Store page, System Shock could now be pushed back once again to 2023. As the year started to come to a close, Nightdive confirmed that the title was now aiming to releasing in 2022, but no firm release date has been set. Multiple release windows have been given by Nightdive since development began over six years ago, with the title originally set to release in 2021.
